Ordering and Shipping

How do I place my order online?

Monikerwear.com is designed to make ordering a reMarkable Shirt simple and fun.

  1. Add a Shirt to your shopping bag or custom-build your own in our sleek online design studio.
  2. When you're ready to checkout, confirm your order details.
  3. Enter your billing and shipping information, and specify the type of shipping for your order, if applicable.
  4. Re-confirm your order.
  5. Feel good!

Do you accept wholesale orders?

Yes, we do.  Please email us at contact@monikerwear.com, and we’ll be happy to discuss our wholesale program with you. Be sure to include a phone number where we can reach you.  Be advised that given our profit-sharing commitments, our volume discount is very slight.

The fabric I wanted isn't available anymore. Why is that?

We invest in a large inventory of shirt fabrics.  We make major updates to our fabric stock every three months and smaller additions on an ongoing basis.

It’s important to us that you always be presented with a wide range of currently fashionable fabrics to dress yourself.  For certain core fabrics, our in-stock supply may exceed 1 or 2 kilometers of fabric length.  For more seasonal or daring options, we will stock a limited supply -- a few hundred meters or so.  We do this for two reasons:

  • We want these fabrics to be limited edition.
  • We want to focus on introducing new fabrics into our stock rather than restocking old colors and patterns.

If a fabric you like is out of stock, depending on demand we may re-order it and make it available again.  Please email Member Services and let us know you want it back -- or post a commandment on our blog.

What forms of payment does MONIKER accept?

MONIKER currently accepts Visa and MasterCard. PayPal can be arranged by request to Member Services.

I placed my order but didn't receive an email confirmation. Should I place another order?

If you completed all the steps of the checkout process and submitted an order but didn't receive an email confirmation, your order was likely placed. Do not place your order again because it may result in a duplicate shipment.

Be sure to check your spam folder for the confirmation email and add MONIKER to your safe list for the future. If the confirmation email is not in your spam folder, login to your Account. From there you can pull up your order history to see if there is a new order.

If you aren't able to locate your order from your Account area, you can email Member Services, and we will assist you.

When can I expect my Shirt to be delivered?

We begin making your MONIKER garment as soon as you commission it. It is a multi-step process. First, we compose a unique pattern, based on your style, fit and size preferences. Next, we draw your chosen fabric(s) from our inventory and cut the material to match your pattern. Matching accessories, such as buttons and threads, are also selected at this point, and tailoring of your garment begins. Once tailoring is complete, your garment is carefully inspected to ensure it matches your custom order in every detail, then pressed and packaged for delivery.

Most commissioned garments will leave the MONIKER design house within twenty business days. At that point you will receive a confirmation email that your order has been shipped, and you will be able to track your order’s progress to your door.

How do Gift Certificates work?

From time to time Moniker will publish limited-time Gift Certificates to reward loyal customers, or to mark a special event. Gift certificates are available in fixed-dollar amounts (such as $25, $50, and $100).

Gift Certificates are not yet available for general purchase.

Gift Certificates work the same way as coupons. During the Check Out process, enter your unique Gift Certificate code in the box marked 'Promotion code'. The code will be written in your email notification or on the printed gift certificate. If you're having any problems redeeming your gift certificate, please email Member Services. We will not be able to apply a gift certificate to your purchase after it is completed.

Most gift certificates do not have an expiration date and can be used at any time.  All gift certificates are non-refundable.

Why does the price vary from shirt to shirt?

The price of your shirt varies based on the fabric you choose to make it.  While all fabrics are made from high-quality, 100% Egyptian cotton, linen, or other natural fibers, fabric costs will still vary widely depending on:

  • Yarn size:  Yarn size refers to the thickness of the cotton yarn that is used to make the fabric.  80s and 100s are expected yarn sizes for a high-quality shirt.  The higher the yarn size, the finer the yarn and the more expensive the fabric.
  • Ply:  Single-ply fabric is woven from one, individual yarn; 2-ply fabric is made from yarns that are twisted together and then woven.  2-ply fabrics must be made from yarn with a very high yarn size (like 100), or else they feel thick and heavy.
  • Color:  Some colors and color combinations (especially rare dark colors) are more expensive to produce and carry a price premium.
  • Pattern:  Fancy patterns, such as raised textures, require highly specialized looms and again command a price premium.
  • Mill where the fabric was woven:  Fabrics sourced from certain mills (especially those in Italy and England) will always command a high price.

I emailed Moniker but haven't received a response yet. Why?

Likely we did receive your email and have already responded. Some emails providers mark our emails as spam or completely block them. Check your spam folder to see if our response is there. If possible, send from a different email address.

During peak season, our Member Services can be a bit backed up. If you sent an email and haven't heard back from us, please wait a week before sending a second inquiry.

Can I cancel an order once it has been placed?

Your order can be cancelled within 24 hours of placing it.  Please contact Member Services if you require us to do so.

Manufacturing

Where are MONIKER Shirts manufactured?

Moniker currently manufactures in Qingdao.  We share production capacity under the same roof with luxury fashion labels such as Japan’s Kenzo and Manhattan’s Ike Behar.

MONIKER's manufacturing facility is ISO 9000-certified for total quality management; ISO 14000-certified for comprehensive environmental stewardship, monitoring and reporting; and OHSAS 18000-certified for occupational health and safety.  These global standards are equally tough around the world.

We require that our production partners operate under safe labor conditions, pay fair wages and follow national labor standards.  Our team routinely visits these factories to make sure they meet these working standards.  If you would like to join us on one of our facility tours, or to find out more, please contact us.

What are MONIKER Shirts made from?

MONIKER custom shirts are made of 100% Egyptian cotton fabric, sourced from pedigree mills around the world including Tessitura Monti, Esqual and Lu Ti.  We occasionally stock linens and some technical/cotton blends for special seasonal collections.

Buttons and threads are made in Japan.

Does Moniker only make custom shirts?

No, in fact we already have the materials, capabilities, and expertise to design custom mens’ suits, tuxedos, vests and top coats.  We will bring these garments online as the MONIKER story grows.

In the meantime, if you are anxious to enquire about MONIKER’s offline custom clothing, please email Member Services. We’re happy to help with offline orders on a case-by-case basis.

Which cut is right for me?

Which cut is right for me?

MONIKER Shirts come in three cuts: Regular, Slim and Relaxed.

Our Regular Cut is a classic pattern that narrows comfortably from chest down to stomach, then opens naturally toward the hips for a clean, tailored finish.

Slim Cut is an aggressive pattern that carves out several inches of fabric from chest down to stomach, then flares again to accommodate the waist and hips. It yields a sharp, contemporary silhouette.

Our Relaxed Cut is an easy pattern that maintains a consistent line from chest to stomach to hips. It maximizes movement and breathability.

If this is your first MONIKER Shirt, our Regular Cut offers crisp, pleasing lines for most body types and is an excellent option. We recommend our members spend some time looking at our size charts before selecting Slim or Relaxed cut garments.

What is Custom Fit?

If you choose Custom Fit, we’ll guide you through a short series of simple body measurements. With them, we’ll design a unique garment pattern for you. Within about 24 hours we’ll invite you to review it and approve it before we proceed. (You’ll need a measuring tape and a lovely assistant to complete the Custom Fit process.)

What is Quick Fit?

With MONIKER’s Quick Fit, you can tell us just your neck and sleeve measurements, and we’ll determine the rest. (You can look up your Quick Fit neck and sleeve simply by checking the tag of any well-fitting shirt in your closet.)

Feel free to review our Quick Fit size charts to see the measurements we’ll employ for the rest of your Shirt. There’s a different set of Quick Fit measurements for each Cut (Slim, Regular and Relaxed).

You can check these against the best-fitting shirt in your closet, and let us know if you’d like to tweak your Quick Fit pattern. Visit our blog for simple instructions on how to measure your best-fitting shirt.

For custom sizes, you ask for body measurements. What will the final measurements of the garment be?

Determining your custom pattern is both art and science. Within about 24 hours of receiving your Custom Fit measurements, we’ll contact you with our proposed pattern and invite you to review it before we proceed.

One way to review our pattern is to check it against the best-fitting shirt in your closet. Visit our blog for simple instructions on how to do so.

Shipping

My tracking number isn’t working! Why?

Likely your order was just shipped. Tracking numbers can take up to 72 hours to be updated. Check back in 24 hours and the information should be updated.

Can I track my shipment?

All US orders ship from our hub via UPS. You should receive a UPS tracking notification when your Shirt leaves our hub, and you’ll be able to mark its progress to your door.

Tracking is often available for non-US orders as well. The precise service available varies by destination.

How much will shipping cost me?

Costs vary based on destination, the weight of the items in your order and the shipping method chosen. To determine the cost of shipping, simply add the items you wish to order to your cart, proceed to check-out and complete your shipping address. In the next step, before you place your order, you will see how much it will cost to ship to your location.

What shipping options do you offer?

We ship UPS Ground to all our US-based customers and use an international courier service for our non-US customers.

Note: UPS cannot ship to PO Boxes.

Why was my order charged a customs fee when it was delivered?

Any international order may incur a customs fee. This is also mentioned in the third step of the checkout process. This fee is being charged by your government, not MONIKER. We apologize for any inconvenience, but we have no control over the customs authorities. Contact your local customs office for more information about customs fees and duty taxes.

Care Instructions

How do I care for my MONIKER Shirt?

Machine wash warm. Wash dark colors separately. Use non-chlorine bleach only if needed. Tumble dry low with a cooling down period.

For best results, after the dry cycle is completed, lay the shirt flat and iron while the fabric is still damp.

All MONIKER shirts are 100% Egyptian cotton (except for some summer linen blends), so expect some shrinkage over repeated wash cycles. We factor shrinkage into your custom measurements when you place your order.

Make Your Mark

Where does Givology work?

Givology partners with grassroots education organizations in China, Uganda, Rwanda, India, Kenya and Ecuador. Partners are generally local charities that lack the marketing resources of larger organizations and are not familiar with using the Internet for fundraising and awareness-building.

Partnerships are secured only after a vigorous due diligence process that involves formal documentation, site visits, and interviews. Partner organizations must provide regular updates, which can be in the form of videos, photos, letters from students, and/or academic transcripts. We posts updates on our website for our customer-philanthropists to track and view.

What is Givology?

Givology is a separate, volunteer-run non-profit organization set up especially to identify opportunities to support schooling in developing countries and to supervise, monitor and audit their impact. Givology is overseen by an independent Board of Directors, comprised of prominent academics and professionals in finance and development, and has been featured by Nicholas Kristof of the New York Times, Knowledge@Wharton, the Seattle Times, and other observers in the field of giving.

Is MONIKER a non-profit organization?

Great question. MONIKER is a for-profit company that gives half its profits (or 1/3 of gross margin, whichever is greater) to people who need it more. It’s an aggressive commitment that enables you to make a big impact with every Shirt you buy -- impacts that we will update you about through monikerwear.com and our email newsletters.

How can I get involved?

Visit our Next Steps page for information about becoming an Ambassador, hosting a Better Day event, screening our documentary, joining us on a Study Tour or hosting a private event. We’re enthusiastic to connect with you.

What’s this gross margin business?

‘Gross margin’ is simply the price at which we sell a Shirt, less the cost of making it for you. When you then subtract the costs of running MONIKER, what’s left equals ‘profit’.

To make sure that rising costs never reduce your Shirt’s giving power, MONIKER calculates your philanthropy as a share of both profit and gross margin, and simply commits to gift whichever is greater. In the long-run, they’re about the same. In the short run, this policy assures you that aggressive giving takes place from Day 1.

One-third of gross margin goes toward our social impact programs; one-third goes to cover MONIKER’s operating costs; and one-third helps to grow a sustainable business that does not depend on fundraising for support.
